Discover the joy of printmaking using the Akua Pin Press with artist Charlie Ciali.  Learn the basic elements of printing and create beautiful monotypes playing with color, texture and composition.  Charlie will work with each student to help them achieve their goals.  All supplies are included (Akua inks, paper, stencils, tools, pencils and Pin Press.)  Choose between one day (either Saturday or Sunday) or two days (Saturday and Sunday).  Sign up at Art Supply Warehouse or call 714-891-3626.

In this innovative workshop, you’ll learn how to use digital images or drawings on polyester film to create a carborundum collagraph. This vastly expands the creative possibilities for carborundum printmaking, in which plates are normally created by painting with acrylic medium and adding carborundum grit. This technique uses a light-sensitive film adhered to screenprinting mesh (often referred to as “EZ film”). Workshop Exploring the Collagraph: A Sustainable Printing Workshop with NYC Artist Holly Brown

Join Brooklyn, NYC based artist and printmaker Holly Brown for a collagraph printing workshop. In this class you will learn the technique Holly uses in her own artwork by carving the “davey” board and collaging recycled material. You will explore both reductive and additive plate making through an abstract design. Just as peanut butter will not stick to jelly, a loose ink will reject a stiff ink. This is true of traditional oil inks as well as newer soy-based Akua Intaglio inks. Taking advantage of the interaction of inks allows the development of multi-color image on a single plate with results that can only be achieved by controlling the viscosities.
