The Netherlands

Bernice van Overbeek is a Dutch calligrapher but most of all mom of 3. She’s a former psychologist specialized in autism, until she had to stop her own practice in 2012 due to chronic illness. Being homebound, she was in search of a new hobby. Through Instagram, she discovered pointed pen calligraphy in 2018 and didn’t stop writing from the first time she held an oblique pen.

Since then, she has attended many online workshops with top calligraphers from all over the world. Bernice has a great love for books and is a very diligent student, which shows in the wide variety of pointed pen and broad-edge scripts and techniques she has under her belt. She’s a member of IAMPETH (Internation Association of Master Penmen and Teachers of Handwriting) and Fellow of the Dutch guild NVC (Nederlandse Verluchters- en Calligrafengilde).

Bernice took part in the 2022 Symbiosis II – The Mentoring Journey from The Art of Letters, where she developed as an artist under the guidance/mentorship of Gemma Black.

When she’s not doing calligraphy, she enjoys reading, cooking, writing letters, photography, bookbinding and crochet.
