Richmond, VA

Sophie Smith is a printmaker from Richmond, VA, USA that makes relief prints, screen prints, and apparel of her hometown, and beyond! She primarily works out of her tiny backyard studio with her shop dog, Babs! She likes to think of her architectural/nature themed prints as a love letter to the city she grew up in, and as an autobiography of her favorite places she’s visited and frequented over the years.

Sophie graduated from VCU Arts in 2019 with a BFA in Painting & Printmaking, and a minor in Craft & Materials Studies.  Very soon after graduating, the Covid-19 pandemic swept over the USA and Sophie spent her time in isolation beginning to define her printmaking business and practice. Through 2020 & 2021 she carved and planned and got ready to jump into action. At present she sells at markets, events, and shops around VA, and sells via her website- sophieprintmaking.com. Sophie also teaches linocut printmaking classes at The Visual Arts Center of Richmond.
