July 9, 2025 - Statesville, North Carolina - Speedball Art Products has acquired the iconic Silicoil Brush Cleaning System and all associated equipment and assets, owned by The Lion Company, Inc.
In 1954, artist and engineer Leo Wrye Zimmerman created the Silicoil Brush Cleaning System. This product revolutionized brush care by effectively removing paint while preserving bristles. Since then, generations of artists have enjoyed the benefits of this simple and effective solution. Leo’s daughter, Zaurie Zimmerman, CEO of The Lion Company noted, “We are thrilled for Speedball to carry on the rich tradition of the Silicoil Brush Cleaning System. They have proven their commitment to nurturing brands and servicing the artist community, and we know it will be a wonderful home.”

Our Speedball + GreatArt Print Show will open on April 1st, 2023, at GreatArt's London location and be on for a whole month. This year, we are excited to have 23 amazing artists joining us and sharing their work.
One of the few benefits we have seen come from this truly unprecedented times the past several years has been the interest and enthusiasm to join the clay community from newcomers around the globe. In hopes of furthering this exciting growth and participation by way of making high quality products available at an accessible price, Speedball is proud to announce we will be enhancing the warranty for our ever-popular Artista wheel from two to five years! We are hopeful this improvement will further augment the confidence consumers have about the craftsmanship involved in manufacturing this wheel and as a result, increase the interest and willingness to add this terrific model to their studios, shared spaces and/or workshop curriculums.

We are pleased to announce the open call for submissions for the 1st annual co-hosted exhibition and competition, "Elemental," in partnership between Speedball Art and Iredell Arts Council. The theme sprung from the desire to inspire and appeal to all artists across the diverse technical backgrounds that are found within our Speedball communities, and yet still be tied to a powerful and unifying framework. "Elemental," speaks to the basic and foundational pieces that make up that which is most important to you, your work, or our world. We invite you to explore the full meaning and great potential found within this simple word and examine how best to represent what "Elemental" forces resonate most powerfully with you.
