Can I use my acrylic or tempura paints on these plates?

No, we do not recommend paints on Speedball Gel Plates since they are formulated for printmaking inks that have longer open times.

Can I use these to print on fabric?

Yes! We have done lab and studio testing to validate that Speedball Gel Plates work with our Fabric Screen and Fabric Block Printing Inks beautifully! We have seen artists use them to create beautiful works ranging from aprons to lamp shades and everything in between!

Are Akua Inks and Modifiers compatible with Gel Printing Plates?

Speedball Gel Printing Plates were specially formulated for use with printmaking inks and are ideally suited for use with Akua inks. Akua Intaglio Inks are also compatible with other brands of gel printing plates but cannot be used with homemade gelatin plates as these plates will resist the ink due to their soy base. Akua Liquid Pigment Inks may be used both with competitive gel printing plates and homemade gelatin plates.
