Do I need to use emulsion or expose a screen with this kit?
No! Because this kit includes pre-exposed Speed Screens - your stencil is ready to go! You can use the designs as-is, or cut them up to customize. Since Speed Screens can be reused, you can also create a pattern or print each stencil multiple times.
How do you print with the DIY Screen Printing Kit?
You simply take the Speed Screen stencil, lay it flat over the supplied canvas pouch, apply a line of ink above the top of the design and use the squeegee to pull the ink across. We suggest you practice on a piece of paper prior to using it on your canvas pouch to get the hang of it. You can also check out our YouTube channel for how-to videos and more tips.
How do I clean my Speed Screens?
Take your inked Speed Screen to the sink and simply rinse away all of the ink. All Speedball inks are water-based
and safe to wash down the drain. The Speed Screen will be soft and delicate again after washing. Remember to lay your Speed Screen squeegee side down on paper towel and lightly blot the exposure side of the Speed Screen with paper towel. Lay your Speed Screen back on the white carrier sheet, squeegee side down. It must be thoroughly dry prior to its next use. It is natural that some inks [primarily red and black] may permanently stain a screen, but this will not affect your next print.
Can I use different inks with this kit?
Yes! Any of our fabric screen printing inks can be used with this kit. The Speed Screen stencils can also be used with our Acrylic Screen Printing ink on paper.
What is the shelf life of Speedball Screen Printing Inks?
Speedball Screen Printing Inks have a shelf life of 2 years post manufacture, but when stored and cared for properly they can last much longer.
Can you use Acrylic Ink on Fabric or Fabric Ink on Paper?
We do not recommend using Acrylic ink on fabric as it will not properly set into the fabric to be washfast. Fabric inks can be used on paper and cardboard and do print well for such projects!
Can I add water to modify the inks?
No, we do not recommend modifying the ink with water.
